Despite its small size and secluded setting, South Walsham is a secret cultural highlight of the Broads experience, thanks to the St Lawrence’s Centre for Training and the Arts, where you may be lucky enough to catch a wonderful classical performance. Check out the centre’s Events diary to see if your Broads holiday coincides with a performance.
With good moorings and a boatyard with fuel and pump-out facilities, South Walsham is a great place to stop and refuel, and if you do, make sure you also take the time to check out the Kings Arms, which in addition to a range of local beers, also incorporates a wonderful Thai/Chinese restaurant. There is a village shop and Post Office, so if you need to stock up, or you want to send a Broads postcard, South Walsham is the perfect place to stop.
The village is also home to Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden, one of the most beautiful attractions in the region, as well as Upton Fen, a key broadland nature reserve and a Mecca for nature enthusiasts of all kinds.
Thanks to its position towards the eastern edge of the Broads network, South Walsham is the ideal place to stop for an afternoon stroll if you’ve set out from Oulton Broad or Yarmouth in the morning.
