In its secluded spot on the River Waveney, six miles south of Great Yarmouth, the beautiful village of St Olaves is a recurrent favourite of Broads explorers, and makes a wonderful place to stop and enjoy a picnic or a traditional pub lunch. The village has more than its fair share of attractions from the wonderfully preserved St Olaves wind pump, one of the finest remaining examples of traditional Norfolk wind power, and St Olaves priory. Railway fans will love the victorian engineering masterpiece of St Olaves suspension bridge.
From the bridge to the wind pump to the incredible countryside which surrounds the village, St Olave’s is a must-stop destination for any keen photographers, or anyone who wants to experience the tranquil beauty of a traditional Suffolk village. Perfect for picnics, dog walking and nature spotting, St Olaves is well worth a visit.
St Olaves once had its very own railway station, but Haddiscoe railway station is only a mile from the village, so if you want to enjoy a daytrip to Norwich, or take a quick trip to Lowestoft or Oulton Broad for supplies, then get aboard and enjoy the Wherry Line, one of Britain’s most picturesque train routes.
St Olaves is one of the most beautiful spots in the southern part of the Broads network, so if you’re planning on exploring this unspoilt region of Suffolk, make sure you don’t miss out on this charming village.
