Though at first glance Stalham may look like just another unassuming Norfolk village, it is in fact home to the unmissable Museum of the Broads, which lets you explore the history, heritage and culture of the broads, and to learn about the people and places which have defined and influenced this unique corner of Britain.
The museum offers family and individual tickets, and features exhibits, a gift shop, visitor centre ans well as the chance to ride the Victorian Steam Launch Falcon. Waterproof clothing is recommended for anyone wishing to ride this historic vessel, as she is an open top craft. The museum really is an unmissable attraction, so if you’re starting from or finishing up in Oulton Broad, make sure you take the time to pop down to Stalham Staithe and see for yourself.
For those who want the chance to see a novel twist on one of the county’s iconic windmills, nearby Hunsett Mill is an incredible piece of architecture. Winner of the 2010 RIBA Manser Medal for Best One-Off House in the UK, the adjoining Mill Keeper’s Cottage is an incredible piece of restoration work, and is a truly inspiring attraction for anyone who loves traditional Norfolk style.
Stalham is a great choice of picnic spot for anyone spending a day navigating the north western region of the Broads, before moving on to one of the larger Broads villages.
