Due to height restrictions on the A149 road bridge, Wayford Bridge is the most northerly point of navigation on the Broads for boats over 7 feet 6 inches. A visit to Wayford Bridge is a lovely way to pass a summer’s day, and thanks to its handy terminus location, it makes a wonderful place to meet up with friends you’ve made while you’ve been adventuring.
A brief warning: even if your boat is low enough to make it under the bridge, the river narrows considerably as you approach Dilham, making turning difficult. We recommend that you make Wayford Bridge the northern limit of your explorations. Its position on the River Ant makes it a secluded, quiet spot to head to for a romantic picnic before you push on further west to the welcoming moorings of Horning and Thurne.
If you want to swap your Broads exploration boat for a smaller vessel for the afternoon, Wayford Bridge is home to a fantastic canoe hire centre, which lets you navigate unreachable stretches of the River Ant, all while keeping fit. For wildlife lovers, canoeing gives you an incredible perspective on the bird, animal and plant life that makes the Broads such an incredible natural habitat.
Since you can’t navigate beyond Wayford Bridge, make sure that if you visit you allow plenty of time for the return journey. The village has few facilities, so it’s worthwhile stocking up on essentials before your visit.
